I have been recently studying, meditating and preaching from Haggai, one of those Minor Prophets many of us overlook. Haggai is the 2nd shortest book in the Old Testament with only 2 chapters, 38 verses. In 4 short sermons God uses His spokesman to bring God’s perspective to the people of God who needed to rebuild their priority list.
The Speaker? What do we know about Haggai? Not much. He is referred to in this book and in 2 references in the historical book of Ezra (5:1, 6:14) as “the Prophet.” We know nothing of his age or ancestry, his home community. His name which means “festival” or “festive” from ‘hag’ – a feast perhaps indicates the day on which he was born, but we know this without precision. His 4 month preaching series in the fall of 520 B.C. was powerfully used by God.
