St. Patrick’s Lorica (Breastplate)
On this St. Patrick’s Day, 2014 I thought I would cite from http://www.cyberhymnal.org the details of “St. Patrick’s Lorica.”
I haven’t found a “lorica” in the Bible, and don’t expect to since the garment provided for sinners is the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Although there is “no condemnation” to those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1), God does not promise to protect His children from illness. Some of the godliest people I have met and currently know are battling long-term conditions and are looking to the “sustaining grace” of God to see them through. After all (2 Corinthians 12) reminds us of God’s assurance to Paul who pleaded with God to remove his ‘thorn in the flesh.’ God did NOT remove the ‘thorn’ but rather declared HIS GRACE to be SUFFICIENT!
