“Be Ever Seeing, But Never Perceiving”
God’s judgment on the people of Judah during the time of Isaiah came through the message he was called to proclaim after he had seen the vision of the LORD – “high and exalted, and the train of His robe filled the temple.” (Isaiah 6)
After Isaiah yielded to God’s call with his infamous “Here am I. Send me!” God responded with clear instructions. “Go and tell this people: “Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving…” What a strict judgment – physical senses but no spiritual perception; taking in lots of information yet not grasping any meaning from it.
Today’s hymn is a prayer that the Holy Spirit of God would illuminate my eyes, ears and heart. I don’t want to miss any lessons God is seeking to teach me, do you?
